I know. [she smiles, but after a moment, it fades.]

I do worry about you, though. You put yourself out there a lot, and you seem to have collected a lot of information that isn't public knowledge. It's fortunate that it was only a few pranks this time, but...

[ . . . . he tilts his head at that.]

... are you actually worried about me, Lenore-san?

.... I think I'll be okay. I'm pretty prepared to deal with dangerous situations, at least.

[and he doesn't want to give her a burden to fret over]

Of course I'm worried.

Every other human I've gotten close to in this place has died. I don't want you to be the next one that I lose.

[ . . . . it's a sweet sentiment. it embarrasses him a little, but it warms his heart even more. so he'll just hold a hand out to her, palm up]

Give me your hand real quick, Lenore-san?

Hm...? All right.

[she puts her hand in his.]

[he'll bring her hand up to his neck then - holding onto her fingers so that she can feel his pulse point, lingering there for a moment. then he'll move her hand to rest over his heart, so she can feel the steady cadence of his heartbeat under her fingertips]

I'm right here. Alive and well.

I plan to keep being here, alive and well, for as long as possible. So you don't have to lose anyone else.

I couldn't do that to you.

[this isn't what she expected. her eyes widen, and soon her expression softens into a fond smile.]

[she hesitates... then takes a step forward and embraces him with one hand pressed over his heart and the other wrapped around him, her head just under his chin.]

What did I tell you about saying things that will make me fall for you?

[oh - he meets the hug easily enough, letting his arm circle around her too, aiming for reassurance. though he flusters a little bit at her words even still, laughing a little - awkwardly]

Ahah... That's - really not what I'm aiming for, uh...

[ . . . . ]

.... I just wish people would be able to say these things to you more often, Lenore-san. I don't think it's all that much. No one wants to be left alone...

It's not just about being left alone.

The truth is, I was really happy when you told me you'd start helping me. Not just because somebody would be there for me... but because it was you.

[ . . . . ? he tilts his head at that, a little confused as his brow furrows]

Because it was me...?

[she stays in the embrace, but she pulls away just enough to look up at him properly.]

he just laughs a little bit at that]

But I am happy that you feel that way.

he startles at that a little because - does. she mean? does she mean......?]

You don't have to feel the same way. I'm happy enough just to spend time with you.

I, uh....! Lenore-san, that's not.... [oh noooooo] We... We barely know each other! So that's - that's so nice of you, I don't really know what to do with it to be honest.

[she smiles and shakes her head.]

That's all right. You already do so much for me. I couldn't possibly ask for more.

... I hope I haven't made you uncomfortable.

[he pauses at that before shaking his head]

I don't... think 'uncomfortable' is the word? It's more like... I guess I'm just surprised. Sorry. I don't really know what to say to this sort of thing - I'm pretty unpopular back home...

But - I think you're really nice. I think you're crazy pretty. I think that you're really cute and sweet and.... I'm really happy we're getting along better.

[ . . . ]

I just - It's a little too complicated for me... to think of... feelings and stuff here.

Well... good. I'm glad we can still be friends.

[perhaps mercifully, she'll take back one of her hands -- the one that was pressed against his chest.]

I wouldn't overthink it so much, though. I may be a romantic, but I know well that this is no place to go looking for a soulmate. Time spent with humans is always so brief, to begin with. I just want to share a few happy moments with someone, before we all have to go our separate ways again.

[wow! good for lenore so that means that she no longer has to deal with feeling his absolutely insane heartbeat underneath her hand, like it was threatening to leap right out of his chest]

[he flusters a little bit before his expression just turns to one that's - soft. sentimental.]

.... I hope you find one. Your soulmate. Your person who'll be there for you through anything and everything. I... I think that's what I want, and I don't know if I'm cool or casual enough to be able to do anything less than giving my all to somebody.

But I'll support you while we're here - however I can.

That sincerity of yours is plenty 'cool,' I think.

I suppose there are still a lot of other ways to have a few happy moments, anyway.
